The lovely ladies of Perfume starred in their first ever drama special episode, "Pensées" (pronounced as pan-see), last March 31st and April 1st. "Pensées" is a French word that means "reflection" or "thought". According to http://dictionary.com, "Pensées" is also a collection of notes, essays, etc. dealing with religious and philosophical matters by Blaise Pascal, published in 1670. This was also shown in the drama.
A-chan plays as Don-chan, an office lady; Yuka-chan as Okamido who helps her parents manage their grocery store and Nocchi as Noribu who works as a part-timer in a clothing shop.
"Pensées" revolves around three childhood friends who decided to buy a Western house for a very cheap price. However, there is one condition. They should take care of Rikimaru. Unknown to them, Rikimaru turns out to be a middle aged man not a dog!
We all know that Perfume members are new in this kind of thing so their acting is not par with known Japanese actors and actresses. However, I assure you that this is a very heart-warming Japanese drama! The show teaches about reconnecting with life and having a warm home. I love the part when Don-chan, Okamido and Noribu welcome Rikimaru back in their home. In all honesty, I was nearly in tears!
The drama script was provided by Kizushi Izumi who was also responsible for "Nobuta wo Produce" and "Q10". While, the theme entitled "Doushite konna ni kanashin darou" was written by Yoshida Takuro. Meanwhile, this show is also directed by Goto Yosuke.
You may download the drama from Nyaa torrents. While, you may get the English softsubtitles by Skeweds Studios from d-addicts.
You may also check out the drama's official website: http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/pensees/
Some screencaps from "Pensées":
Since the item is fragile, 392 Majokkomachi packed it very securely. It has a bubble wrap at first.
Then, the box.
When I opened the box, this came out. Again, it's in bubble wrap.
Tada!!! PERFUME OF PERFUME!
The box has black and white triangles. Very very Perfume-ish!
According to 392 Majokkomachi, the perfume ingredients are ethanol, perfume, bergamot fruit oil, ylang ylang flower oil, odorious age oil, lemon peel oil, palmarosa oil, Roman chamomile flower oil.
The perfume itself! It comes in a clear 10 ml bottle.
Although the perfume contains flower based ingredients, it doesn't smell that sweet. Just like one Perfume fan pointed out, it smells sporty-ish. Comparing to Victoria's Secret perfumes (since I used Victoria's Secret before), it is not that strong and not that sweet. I would definitely recommend you to purchase this if you are a fan of not too strong perfumes.
If you are also into buying Japanese pop / rock merchandise, I would definitely recommend 392 Majokkomachi! Their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/
Overall, the perfume is so good!
Perfume of Perfume is still available in some Isetan, Tower Record and Loft stores in Japan. It is also available in Amuse Inc.'s webstore, Asmart but is only available for shipping within Japan.

Let's face it! It's difficult to be an international fan of a group that belongs to Japan. It's different from Korean Pop and even Western Pop since most Japanese artists tend to be only exclusive to Japanese fans. So, I came up with this post to give you an idea on how you could support your favorite Japanese artists. All insights will be coming from my own experiences. I support Johnny’s and Amuse artists so this point of view will be coming from there. Please feel free to share on the comments below your own insights! If you disagree with me, please feel free to share your thoughts on the comments below as well!
Of course, ILLEGAL is everywhere in every fandom. Download links provided by fans are illegal. Torrents are illegal. A fan livestreaming in a concert is illegal. Fansubbing is illegal. In this fandom where almost all is illegal, how could you show support for your favorite artists?
A Japanese regular single already costs 500-600 Php while the limited edition might cost from 800 Php to 1,000 Php. You could already buy a K-Pop album for the cost of a Japanese single. While, a Japanese album already costs 1,600 to 2,100 Php.This is already expensive especially for students. However, there are alternatives like legal online streaming services like Amazon Japan, Apple music, iTunes and Spotify. They are much cheaper.
Illegal downloading of music is rampant here in the Philippines. J-Pop is no excuse. However, if their music is available in local online streaming sites like Spotify Philippines and Philippine iTunes (Apple music) then it's much better if you stream and purchase from those services. Our team in Amuse Philippines and other Amuse PH FCs do promote the legal way. We make sure that fans do not share download links in our groups and promote Spotify, iTunes and other legal ways. Unfortunately, of course, not all Japanese artists use this service like idols from Johnny's and Associates. You may opt to join closed livejournal communities or forums that share downloadable links. You just have to follow and respect their rules if there may be. For example, rules like "re-uploading is not permitted" should be followed.
Japanese Bluray and DVD concerts already cost from 2,000 to 5,000 Php. This is already way too expensive for me so I don’t have the habit of pre-ordering them beforehand. So, what I actually do is wait until I get a copy.
Just recently, Perfume released their COSMIC EXPLORER Bluray and DVD and I still haven’t gotten a copy yet so I’m trying to resist from spoilers in facebook groups. Of course, downloading is an option if you couldn’t wait. If you love the concert, then of course that’s the time you buy it! If you indeed love the artist and the concert you watched, then you will find ways on how to come up with the total sum. The best and only way is to save money. Some concerts are streamed on national TV in Japan so you could watch them before the bluray / DVD release. If you love them, please do save up and support the artists by purchasing them!
Your favorite idol in a new Japanese variety or drama series? Most of the contents will only be exclusive to Japan so you’ll only be able to rely on videos uploaded by fans who are in Japan. Here are also some sites wherein you can legally stream Japanese dramas. The Japanese dramas are limited however.
- http://avistaz.to - registration is needed
- http://jdramacity.blogspot.com - open to all
- http://nyaa.se - open to all
- http://plotboxes.livejournal.com - direct downloads
How about your favorite artist appearing in a Japanese movie? It’s actually pretty the same with Japanese variety and drama series. The contents can be only exclusive to Japan. You have to wait at least four to six months until you get a copy online. It doesn’t work like the Philippines wherein you can get a pirated copy during its screening. So, we really have to wait for the Bluray or DVD release. Original bluray and DVD copies for Japanese movies cost at the same range as Japanese concerts bluray and DVDs. I actually only have one Japanese movie DVD with me which is Rurouni Kenshin. The movie is so precious to me since this is the first Japanese live-action film ever screened here in the Philippines and Amuse PH held a petition in order for the movie to be screened here. I had to get the original Japanese copy.
Your favorite artists in Japanese magazines? Japanese magazines can also be a hell of expensive since they’re more heavy than bluray, CDs and DVDs. They can cost up to 500-1,000 Php depending on the kind of shipping you will use. It’s actually pretty easy to purchase Japanese magazines now since there are so many local online stores that offer pre-orders for Japanese magazines. They would only cost up to 500 Php particularly for Johnny’s and fashion magazines if you purchase from local online stores found on facebook.
It actually all boils down to following the rules in the J-Pop fandom in order to maintain status quo. If certain uploaders tell you that you cannot re-upload the file, then we shouldn’t re-upload the file. If some subbers include in their rules that their subs couldn’t be uploaded on streaming sites then we should follow it. If we couldn’t follow the rules, then bid farewell to the overflowing treasures that precious uploaders and fansubbers share.
However, of course, It doesn’t mean that showing support already equates to buying your favorite artist merchandise. You could show support just by spreading the love or simply just by sharing info about them which could go a mile since social media is so fast nowadays! You could write news articles about your favorite artists on your blogs or even in Japanese cultural websites such as Japan Info.
If you could afford to buy their goods, then it’s not a problem. Online stores such as Amazon Japan, CDJapan, HMV Japan and YesAsia are among the stores I rely on.
You could show support to your favorite artists in your own little ways like making arts and crafts. You could be creative! You could also make fanarts and fanfics that you could share with your fellow fans.
Any point I might have missed? Please feel free to comment below!
UPDATE: 2017/04/20 4:27pm
- A good friend of mine, Mayel, pointed out on facebook that we could reserve magazines in any visa-free Asian country with Kinokuniya branch if we're going to visit. You could just pick up the magazines from there. You may find the list of branches here.
- And, I love how Salia put her words this way. "Being a kind fan to others in the fandom also helps. Spreading negativity, hatred, and chaos is really an awful thing to do. We need to respect each and every fandom." This is basically true. We do need to respect each and everyone in the fandom.
- According to Cherii, you could also support your favorite idols by availing their blog service through your smartphones. Johnny's Web is for Johnny's idols while Amuse mobile for Amuse artists. You could also send fanletters to your favorite artists through their radio shows or stageplays.
- Mark shared that he was able to sent flowers to his favorite idols. This online store (K's flower webshop) based in Japan accepts orders.
- Cherii Pie of Uehara Takuya Philippines also does send-off greetings for Uehara Takuya when he has stageplays. You can post your greetings on instagram and Uehara Takuya will notice them! We could also do this with artists who have SNS accounts.
Hi, fellow dream chasers!
Just last February 26th, my friend and I were in Baguio City for the Panagbenga Flower Festival. When I was a college student, I promised myself to go to Baguio when I graduate. I was supposed to travel alone before but I backed out at the last minute since I got scared of travelling alone. Good thing my friend, Ate Michelle, invited me to join her to go to Baguio.
We left Manila in the evening of the 25th and we arrived in the city at around 3:30 in the morning. We managed to get a good spot to watch the parade. All the floats were gorgeous! I believe the Japanese and Korean communities are active in Baguio since there were representatives present. There was a cosplay community present too! I also believe there was a “Game of Thrones” themed float too. We were entertained by students playing the instruments during the parade. There are even artists involved in the parade! I saw a glimpse of Alden and Maine. I didn’t see the other artists since we already left our spot to eat lunch. After eating lunch, we went to a market to buy souvenirs. I got a strawberry keychain, a fan and Baguio snacks! We also strolled in Burnham Park. I was able to eat strawberry icecream and taho! The icecream was so good though the strawberry taho was too sweet for me.
After, we went to “The Mansion” and got our photos taken. After a short stop at “The Mansion”, we went to Mines View Park. I wasn’t able to see the park since I was already tired.
It was only a one day trip but it was still worth it. I hope to visit Baguio again next time!
Here are the other photos from Baguio City taken by my friend, Ate Michelle:
PERFUME's newest single, "TOKYO GIRL", was just released last 15th of February. This is a tie-up song for fellow Amuse Inc. agency mate, Yoshitaka Yuriko's starring drama "Tokyo Tarareba Musume". The said single also contains a B-side entitled "Houseki no Ame" and instrumentals for each songs. "Houseki no Ame" was used as a theme for the commercial of ORA2 toothpaste.
The limited edition includes a DVD of the full version of the music video of "TOKYO GIRL", a "making of" of the music video and a teaser trailer for "COSMIC EXPLORER" Bluray and DVD.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE SONG "TOKYO GIRL"?
Although many Perfume fans think that this song is not good, I would say that this is a lovely song. Yasutaka Nakata's music for Perfume is evolving and Perfume is now maturing into fine women. So, it's not puzzling to hear a different sound from their earliest songs. I honestly couldn't sleep early for days when a radio rip of "TOKYO GIRL" came out since I was looping the song all night!
HOW ABOUT "HOUSEKI NO AME"?
The coupling song, "Houseki no Ame", received more love from fans than "TOKYO GIRL". I also love this song because of its playful tunes. It reminds me of "Communication".
DID YOU LIKE THE MUSIC VIDEO OF "TOKYO GIRL"?
Absolutely yes! I was still up later in the evening when the short version of the music video came out. I immediately loved it! The fact that Yuririn (Yoshitaka Yuriko) was also part of the production made me beyond happy. She's one of my favorite Japanese actresses. One Perfume fan pointed out that she shouldn't be at the music video at all. I beg to differ since we got a different product this time. "TOKYO GIRL" is a tie-up between a Japanese drama and Yuririn also belongs to Amuse Inc. so this is obviously a tie-up between agency mates too. Also, the concept of having stories in music videos in Japan are nothing unusual. Some J-Pop artists and idols have this kind of music videos too. Collaborations between J-Pop artists and Japanese actors and actresses are also a trend in J-Pop culture. Although, I can understand that Perfume fans are thirsty for more Perfume exposure since the dance included in the music video is too short. Dance routines are one of Perfume's magical elements.
Here are some screenshots of the music video:
You may watch the full version of the music video of "TOKYO GIRL" below:
While, you may watch the ORA2 CM featuring "Houseki no Ame" here:
Here are some screenshots from the "making of" called "Perfume View":
I really love seeing the girls behind the scenes! They were jumpy and just having fun!
If you love Japanese pop music or just plain curious, please do support and give this a listen! You may actually purchase the two songs from Philippine iTunes and stream the single on Spotify Philippines. The single costs 90 Php in iTunes while you may listen to the songs for free in Spotify if you're connected to wi-fi. Just download the applications.
If you're interested in getting the physical copies of the single, you may still buy from the following online stores:
Amazon Japan: Limited edition / Regular edition
Asmart: Limited edition / Regular edition
CDJapan: Limited edition / Regular edition
HMV Japan: Limited edition / Regular edition
Play-asia: Limited edition / Regular edition
YesAsia: Limited edition / Regular edition
ALSO! Perfume will release a BLURAY and DVD of their COSMIC EXPLORER tour! You may watch the teaser trailer below:
The limited edition for both Bluray and DVD costs so much this time since they included so many features for this live Bluray/DVD concert! Both the limited and regular editions will contain two kinds of "COSMIC EXPLORER" live concerts particularly the dome edition and standing edition. They will also include an Ultra Digest of the USA TOUR and two more video features for the limited edition! For more information, please head here to their website.
You may pre-order from the following online stores:

Please also support Yoshitaka Yuriko's drama, "Tokyo Tarareba Musume". A-chan voice acts for this drama too! You may download from JDramacity.
LET'S KEEP ON LOVING PERFUME!

It's already 2017! Happy new year, everyone! Cheers to a wonderful 2017 ahead!
2016 was a great year for my fangirl heart. It had a good start for me. One of my favorite Japanese rock bands, ONE OK ROCK, finally landed on Philippine soil. Januay 19, 2016 was a memorable day for me. I got to meet Taka, Toru, Ryota and Tomoya up close. I had tears flowing down my face after I shook hands with them. I will never forget that moment. Aside from ONE OK ROCK, I also got to attend a free J-Pop concert featuring The Beatmotors, Diana Garnet and Joe Innoue that was organized by The Japan Foundation Manila. What's more, Ozine Fest was able to bring one of Amuse Inc.'s top Anisong artists, FLOW. I made sure to see them too! Also, Best of Anime was able to get INKT! One of KAT-TUN's former members, Tanaka Koki, is the vocalist of the band. I was dumbstruck when I got to see Koki so close on the first day! He was so cute laughing with his co-band members when I saw him. 2016 was also the year I came back to my very first fandom, KAT-TUN. One of Hyphens' Philippines' admin, Elli, invited me to attend their concert DVD viewing event. I gladly accepted the invite and screamed my heart out during the concert screening.
Perfume also brought so much joy for me last 2016. They had a movie tie-up with the live-action adaptation of Chihayafuru. The electro-pop trio had the song "Flash" for the said film. Perfume also released a brand new album, "Cosmic Explorer", last year. It was a huge year for Perfume too. They had a nationwide tour and a North American tour. They were also again invited to the prestigious music show, NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen! They're going to release a brand new single entitled "TOKYO GIRL" in February, my birth month. Keep slaying, my dear queens!
2016 was also a rough year for me. I went to job interviews here and there but no luck. I'm still contented though since I get to work for Japan Info, a Japanese cultural website. I currently write about Japanese pop culture for Japan Info while I'm still looking for an office based job.
Before the year concluded, I got to see two Japanese films in the cinemas with friends. A huge thanks to Pioneer Films for bringing "Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso" and "Kimi no Na wa" to Philippine cinemas! Through watching "Kimi no Na wa", I got to know Kamishiraishi Mone. She's the voice actress behind the character "Mitsuha". I fell in love with her talents especially her singing ability. She really has a nice voice and I find her really artistic. I hope I can follow her craft from now on! I was also able to attend Kawaii PH's year end party. Too bad, that was only the Kawaii PH event I attended last year. I should be more active this year!
Hopefully, I get to be more active and involved this 2017. I should attend more events, meet more people, watch more Japanese dramas, films and even anime, write more Japanese culture articles, blog more and hang out with friends more! I should also make my advocacy into action. I'm an ally for the LGBT community ever since I gained more knowledge about it. I should attend pride marches soon! And, of course, I should also take care of my health more and go back to working out again. I should also continue being an admin for my dear AMUSE PH and also continue looking for an office based job.
To whomever may be reading this, I hope you have a meaningful 2017 ahead! HAPPY NEW YEAR!🎉

It's already the 28th of December as I write this entry. MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE! Just last 21st of December, I attended the Year End Party of Kawaii Philippines. It was a very fun-filled event. The theme was pastel so we were encouraged to wear pastel or light colors. In all honesty, I felt underdressed. I wasn't prepared. My sincerest apologies! The party was held at Moonleaf, Maginhawa in Quezon City.
The Kawaii PH team prepared some parlor games to liven up the Christmas feel during the party. We had games like "Bring me", "Pinoy Henyo", "Charades", "Name that Tune" and "Eggplant Relay". Everyone gladly participated in the games and we won some "kawaii" or cute merchandise! I participated in the games "Bring me" and "Name that Tune" though I was such a huge fail in "Name that Tune". I was supposed to sing the tune with the sound of a dog or a cat but I wasn't able to complete the task. We changed players then. But, we got some of the tunes correct; though we didn't win.
It isn't a party without the food! We had some delicious pasta and milk tea from Moonleaf! Thank you!
Here's my haul from the party:
Freebies and stationery stuff from Kawaii PH store. The stickers from the free pack were so awesome. Let's support local artists! While, the Hello Kitty stuffed toy was a prize from the "Bring me" game! THANK YOU!
( Here's what I also got from the party! )
Thank you to Kawaii PH team for organizing this event. I had fun meeting fellow kawaii dreamers. <3
I CRIED MY EYES OUT IN "YOUR LIE IN APRIL".
The first scene showed an array of wonderful sakura flowers that reminds us it was Spring season. It was a beautiful scenery. The three friends, Arima Kosei, Sawabe Tsubaki and Watari Ryota showed a real tight friendship. It was very evident in the film. Tsubaki wanted Kosei to play the piano again. The appearance of Miyazono Kaori was the answer. She was the key in Kosei's struggle. Kosei can still play the piano however, according to him, he can no longer hear the notes. It was later revealed that Kosei feels guilty with the death of her mother. He was freed from that pain when he performed for the Gala concert; all because of Kaori’s magical encouragement. Her free spirited character inspired Kosei.
Kaori’s sickness wasn't clearly stated in the film so as her death. However, her death was conveyed when Kosei was playing in the piano competition. We can say that Kaori appeared as a soul. This is what I love with Japanese films. They don’t exactly show what was going on. You end up thinking what, why and how.
I’d love to commend the main actors Yamazaki Kento and Hirose Suzu’s effort in learning to play the piano and violin for a very short time. They practiced playing the instruments for six months prior to filming the movie. I am actually a frustrated violinist. I learned to play the instrument when I was 14. So, I was very much bewildered when I saw Suzu’s violin performance. She was playing like a goddess! It’s the same for Yamazaki Kento. He was so excellent with the piano too. The other actors Ishii Anna, Nakagawa Taishi and Itaya Yuka also played their characters well.
(Side note: Nakagawa Taishi reminds me of Fukushi Sota. I don’t know why but he gives off a Fukushi Sota aura to me.)
The only complaint that I have is Suzu’s hair. It was obvious that it was only hair extensions. Her hair is much more better in Chihayafuru live-action films. Other than that, the film is perfect! I actually cried during the whole movie.
This is one of the important parts in the film:

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)
The film “Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso” or “Your Lie in April” is based on the manga with the same title by Arakawa Naoshi. The manga series has 11 volumes published by Kodansha. An anime television series was also adapted. The anime aired from October 2014 until March 2015 and has 22 episodes.
“Your Lie in April” is about a piano prodigy named Arima Kousei. He was strictly trained to play the piano by his mother ever since he was a child. After his coldhearted and abusive mother died, he had a mental breakdown while performing the piano at age of 12. In line with this, he can no longer hear the sound of the piano even though his hearing is perfectly fine. One day, he meets a young girl named Miyazono Kaori who changes his outlook in life. Kaori is a violinist who has a manic personality that fits her musical style. She helps Kousei return to the music world. As their friendship grows closer, Kousei realizes he loves her.
In the film adaptation, Yamazaki Kento plays as Arima Kousei and Hirose Suzu as Miyazono Kaori. The movie also includes Ishii Anna as Sawabe Tsubaki, Nakagawa Taishi as Watari Ryota, Komoto Masahiro, Honda Hirotaro, Amuse actress Itaya Yuka as Seto Hiroko and Dan Rei as Arima Saki. The theme song is “Last Scene” by Ikimonogakari.
"Your Lie in April" is NOW SHOWING!!

Perfume gif made by dochimin@tumblr
As many of my friends would know, I am a huge fan of Perfume. I came across their brilliant music in Music Station when it was still airing here in the Philippines in 2008. "Chocolate Disco" became my favorite. However, I only became a big follower in 2012 starting with “Spring of Life”.
WHY DO I LOVE PERFUME?
There are three wonderful reasons why I love Perfume.
- Perfume's dance choreography is one of a kind. - Perfume's dance choreography is by none other than Mikiko-sensei; the same choreographer of BABYMETAL and other Amuse artists. I've only seen such choreography in J-Pop. It's very different than choreography done in the West and in K-Pop. I also believe Perfume's dance is not easy. They're very difficult to learn. One example is "Spending all my time" as you can see in the many hand gestures needed to be done in just one dance. One more example is "Nee" with all the different footworks. According to Perfume, it takes them two to three hours to complete one dance choreography. I really admire them for that.
- Perfume's music fits my preference really well. - I both love Japanese and electronic pop music. Perfume is one package of both elements. Yes, their voices might not be that great but they’re very magical for me. Their whimsical voices plus Yasutaka Nakata’s music can make you groove to the beat! One example is "Communication". This is one of my most favorite Perfume tunes. Their very cute staccato voices in this certain song makes me want to dance!
- Perfume's performances always deliver. - It's not a fandom secret that Perfume does lip sync most of the time. Although they lip sync, their performances are always top notch! It's a mixture of dance, music and visuals. Perfume's efforts and their team's efforts are also ingredients in making one performance successful. One great example is their performance at the 2015 NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen. Their "Pick Me Up" performance in last year's Kouhaku was a blend of Mikiko-sensei's dance choreography, Rhizomatiks’ visuals and Yasutaka Nakata's music.
